Passion according to St. Luke

He is called "the light of modern choral music". Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds writes great music in all senses, his works, regardless of genre, breathe in sacredness. "Passion according to St. Luke" occupy a special place in his oeuvre. The music is sumptuous, rich, and powerful, with heroic, picturesque, passionate, and ethereal elements.
On April 24 the Honored Academic Chapel of Ukraine "Trembita" will perform the “Passion according to St. Luke” by Eriks Esenvalds in the Organ Hall.

Ēriks Ešenvalds was born in Latvia. He studied at the Latvian Baptist Theological Seminary before obtaining his master's degree in composition from the Latvian Academy of Music. He was a member of the State Choir Latvija and Fellow Commoner in Creative Arts at Trinity College, University of Cambridge.
Ešenvalds is a three-time winner of the Latvian Grand Music Award. The International Rostrum of Composers awarded him first prize for his work The Legend of the Walled-in Woman. Ešenvalds teaches at the Department of Composition of the Latvian Academy of Music.

"Trembita" chorus chapel is one of the oldest choir collectives in Ukraine, created in 1939 on the basis of the legendary "Lviv Boyan", whose history dates back to 1891. The first conductor of Trembita was the famous Dmitry Kotko. Then the choir was headed by such outstanding figures as Petro Goncharov, Olexander Soroka, Mykola Kolessa, Pavlo Muravsky, Volodymyr Pekar, Igor Zhuk. Since 1994 the chamber orchestra has joined to the choral composition, which allowed to expand the repertoire and perform such canvases as "Great Mass" and "Requiem" by Mozart, "Kavkaz" by Ludkevych and others. Chapel "Trembita" was awarded the Shevchenko Prize.
