The mighty symphonic program from INSO-Lviv orchestra, the legendary American-Ukrainian conductor Theodore Kuchar and American cellist Emilio Colón. Charismatic, expressive role of a solo cello in “Schelomo” Hebraique Rhapsody by Ernest Bloch is an organic part of the bright, exotic in a way musical language of the given piece. Moreover, a cello timbre here symbolizes the personality of Solomon (Schelomo) and sort of appealing to us through the centuries. Two pieces by Tchaikovsky to be performed in the program are absolutely different: while in The Theme and Variations from Orchestral Suite No. 3 the composer dwells in a balanced compositional work with an abstract musical thought, in “Francesca da Rimini” Symphonic Fantasy he tends to the fiction characters inspired by Dante’s “Divine Comedy” and its dramaturgy resembles a real whirlwind. Schumann’s Cello Concerto belongs to the late period of the composer’s activity and wasn’t perfumed in his lifetime. The piece’s interesting feature is that all its three movements follow one another without a pause. In general, this Cello Concerto is not a piece to demonstrate virtuosic bravura, and instead creates a space for philosophical self-exploration. This night the orchestra will perform Schuman’s Cello Concerto in Shostakovich orchestration.
