Musical language of the Viennese Classics is characterized by a well-defined form and clarity of the harmonic structures and instrumentation. Works of this period are a central part of every classical musician's education. Immortal music by Mozart and Haydn is a whole musical universe, which, while being founded on classicist ideals, is still under exploration over two hundred years after this music has been written, and each performance brings a new interpretation of these scores.

This concert will be a unique event: the musicians from INSO-Lviv orchestra will be joined on stage by their younger colleagues - students of the Solomiya Krushelnytska Music School aged 11 to 17 - who will perform the concert program as part of the same orchestra. They will have an opportunity to perform in a professional orchestra, under the baton of Viennese conductor Georg Kugi, and to accompany renowned Ukrainian pianist Andiy Dragan.

The programme includes overtures from three operas by Mozart: Die Zauberflöte and La clemenza di Tito - some of the most performed operas worldwide. Being the orchestral introduction to an opera, an overture often encompasses a reflection of the plot and music of the whole opera.

Melodies from Mozart's serenade Eine kleine Nachtmusik are among the most popular and recognizable in his whole oeuvre. Mozart didn't write «kleine» (little, small) in the score, but did note it in his private catalogue, which means it was not intended as an official title of the work. «Kleine» can be interpreted as referring in lesser extent to the work's length, but rather to its light, joyful character.

Mozart's piano concerto no. 6, also to be performed at the concert, is his early work in this genre. Nevertheless, Mozart is quite inventive even in this early work, and it will definitely not disappoint the listeners.

Haydn's 101-st Symphony, often referred to as The Clock, got its nickname because of the characteristic rhythmic accompaniment present throughout the whole second movement – reminiscent of the "tick-tock" sound of a clock. It was written for London audience, which was so impressed by the work that on the premiere the first two movements had to be performed twice.
