Stankovych's violin music

Date and time

25 August 2019, Sunday 21:00

Presentation of the disk Yevhen Stankovych: Music for Violin and Piano by Toccata Classics.

Yevhen Stankovych (born in 1942) is one of Ukraine’s leading contemporary composers. His music for violin and piano – almost all of it recorded here for the first time – covers a wide range of emotions, from wild highland dances that distantly recall Szymanowski to the plangent, lyrical lament of Maydan Fresco, protesting the deaths of demonstrators in Maydan Square in 2013.
The works from the disc will be played on August 25 in the Lviv Organ Hall. Also in the program include works that have been recorded or will be recorded on Toccata Classics.

Violinist Solomia Soroka, born in L’viv, Ukraine, made her solo debut at age 10, playing the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the L’viv Philharmonic Orchestra.
She has appeared as soloist and as chamber musician at concerts and festivals in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, USA, Canada, Asia.
Ms. Soroka has performed premieres of a number of important contemporary Ukrainian compositions for violin, including works by Borys Lyatoshynsky, Myroslav Skoryk and Yevhen Stankovych.

Pianist Arthur Green won Gold Medals at both the 1978 Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition and the William Kapell International Piano Competition.
He has performed with the main orchestras of Europe, Asia and America.
He is currently Chair of the Music Department at the University of Michigan.
